Significance and the Expansion Scheme

When the state boundaries were reorganized in 1956, Nagpur transitioned from a state capital to a regional hub. To safeguard the equal development of the Vidarbha region, leadership signed the historic Nagpur Pact, designating Nagpur as the second capital of Maharashtra and guaranteeing the holding of winter legislative sessions here.

To accommodate future legislative expansion and the anticipated rise in assembly seats post-delimitation, the Maharashtra Government approved a massive Rs 662.89 crore expansion project. Executed via the fast-tracked Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) mode, the blueprint addresses crucial spatial constraints. It involves demolishing old compound barracks to build a state-of-the-art administrative block and a 700-capacity Central Hall for joint house sittings, ensuring the landmark remains functionally equipped for the next 50 years.
