Accidentally ascended the throne after her father King George's VI death in 1952 due to inevitable turmoil within the royal British family in the wake of abduction of Edward VIII in December1936 Queen Elizabeth II, who died peacefully on September 8, 2022 at Balmoral aged 96 became the UK's longest-serving of any female monarch in world history. She overshot her grandma Queen Victoria and Empress of India (24 May 1819 – 22 January 1901; aged 81) who died in January, 1901, whose reign lasted 63 years and seven months till 1901.

Important event that took place in the Queens busy life included her coronation in 1953 and the celebrations of her Silver, Golden, and Diamond Jubilees in 1977, 2002, and 2012, respectively. She became the first British monarch to reach a Sapphire Jubilee in 2017.
Born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, in Mayfair, London, on 21 April 1926, at Westminster Abbey on 20 November 1947, she married the prince taking the title of Duke of Edinburgh. Her son prince Charles is already proclaimed as the King of Britain. The queen was a graceful and affable woman and carried on her customary and traditional duties as the British queen with dedication and commitments. She along with her husband travelled to many common wealth countries and mingled with people of varied cultures.
Unlike her late husband Duke of Edinburgh whose frequent gaffes garnered him a lot of criticism from the public over the years, Queen Elisabeth was very careful when facing the media or the public. When it comes to the British rule in India and their colonial atrocities, in particular, the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919 and the great Bengal famine of the early 1940s, I wish the late queen had apologized to India or at least said, ''I am sorry for the wrongs committed in the past.'' She was not part of the colonial misrule and exploitation, but her predecessors were, including Queen Victoria to whom the loot -Koh-i-noor diamond and the world famous largest Timur Ruby were handed over as gifts from Punjab by the looters - East India company. Had she done it she would have won every heart of the people in the subcontinent.

Queen Elizabeth and her equestrian statues:
The equestrian statues of Queen Elizabeth II serve as enduring symbols of her seven-decade reign, blending royal majesty with her well-documented, lifelong passion for horsemanship. Unlike traditional seated or standing portraits, these monuments capture the Queen in a state of active, poised leadership, reflecting a unique facet of her public and private identity.
The 2003 bronze by Philip Jackson in Windsor Great Park is perhaps the most iconic. Situated at the end of the Long Walk, it commemorates her Golden Jubilee. Clad in 1970s riding attire rather than ceremonial robes, the statue emphasizes a sense of "approachable majesty" and her deep connection to the English countryside.
In Canada, the equestrian theme carries significant diplomatic weight. The 1992 Parliament Hill statue in Ottawa, sculpted by Jack Harman, features the Queen atop Centennial. Unveiled for Canada’s 125th anniversary, it symbolizes the bond between the Monarchy and the Commonwealth. Similarly, the 2005 statue in Regina’s Wascana Centre depicts her riding Burmese, the famous jet-black mare gifted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
These statues are historically significant because they break from the rigid formality often associated with royal iconography. By choosing to be immortalized on horseback, Queen Elizabeth II highlighted a skill that required discipline, patience, and a connection to nature—traits that mirrored her approach to constitutional duty. They remain vital landmarks that celebrate her legacy as both a sovereign and a horsewoman.
Queen Elisabeth II was the only female monarch with three equestrian statues made when she was alive, two in Canada and one in the UK (only one in public place). All equestrian statues of Queen Elizabeth II were done by sculptors of great repute.

Located on the grounds of Parliament Hill the monument came up to commemorate both Canada the 125th anniversary of Canadian Confederation, as well as the Ruby Jubilee of Elizabeth II. The statue was temporarily relocated to the gates of Rideau Hall in 2019, in order to facilitate the decade-long renovations taking place on the Centre Block,1992 main building of the Parliament complex on the parliament hill, Ottawa, Ontario.
