The monument represents the historical and cultural heritage of the Gond people, one of India's largest indigenous communities of past era. These monuments include a range of architectural structures such as forts, palaces, and temples, reflecting a rich tapestry of history and architectural ingenuity of the Gond dynasty that once ruled a wide spread region. The gond Dynasty ruled this part and others for centuries beginning in the 13th century. They governed four major kingdoms covering vast areas such as Garha-Mandla, Deogarh, Chanda, and Kherla. The dynasty had spread over from eastern Madhya Pradesh to western Odisha and parts of Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
During the 16th and 17th centuries, the prosperity and artistic achievements of the Gond rulers reached the zenith when Ramnagar served as a prominent cultural and art center. Much of the monuments along the great Narmada river came up during this period and they highlight not only the gradual mix of Rajput and Mughal influences, but also showcasing the cultural assimilation of the Gond community, particularly during the reign of king Hirde Shah of 17th century. He was the one who shifted the capital to Ramnagar in Mandla from Chauragarh, near present-day Jabalpur, which was the former capital established by the great King Sangram Shah, one of his predecessors. Accoriding to MP Tourism site, both ruler Sangram Shah and Rani Durgavati occupy an important place in the history of Gond kingdom.

Geologically speaking Gondwana land and the Gondwana Formation are important landmarks not only in India but also in the geologic history of various continents. "Gondwana was a large landmass, sometimes referred to as a supercontinent. The remnants of Gondwana make up around two-thirds of today's continental area, including South America, Africa, Antarctica, Australia, Zealandia, Arabia, and the Indian subcontinent".(en.wikipedia.org).
The Gondwana Kingdom in the later period included part of Kollur mines of the Krishna River area (Andhra state). The alluvial placer deposits yielded a large number of world famous diamonds such as Koh-i-noor, Dresden, Orlov, Arcot diamonds, etc. The Gondwana kingdom under the muslim rule had its capital in Hyderabad (now a famous IT Center in Telangana State) and the capital was a world famous diamond center centuries ago where diamond cutting and polishing was a big business.
