The European Cemetery (often referred to as the Christian Cemetery) situated near the main entrance at the foothill of Gooty Fort serves as an open-air archive of the early East India Company administration in the Ceded Districts (Rayalaseema).

Unlike classical civilian graveyards, the cemetery's layout reflects a mix of Neoclassical colonial masonry and Anglo-Indian funerary art designed to withstand the harsh local climate.
Several prominent graves are designed as massive rectangular stone sarcophagi elevated on low plinths. These are constructed using thick granite plates and finished with polished lime-and-marble dust plaster.Obelisks and Pyramidal Markers: Taller, monument-type edifices—such as slender stone obelisks—were erected over the graves of high-ranking military commanders and political agents to make them visible from a distance against the backdrop of the fort walls.

The craftsmanship features hand-carved floral relief motifs, traditional Latin cross structures, marble inlay tablets, and localized mosaic work along the tomb borders. Epitaph Inscriptions: Deeply incised English lettering on white marble or slate tablets documents the names, military regiments, administrative designations, and causes of death—offering direct insight into the high mortality rates caused by tropical epidemics like cholera during the 1820s.

Structure: Although his remains were exhumed a year later and reinterred at St. Mary's Church in St. George, Chennai, a large stone memorial tomb/cenotaph was preserved at this site surrounded by dedicated well masonry and shade trees commissioned by the Government of Madras.
F. W. Robertson (District Collector):
Historical Significance: Francis William Robertson was another highly regarded Principal Collector of the Ceded Districts who served the region for over a decade.

Structure: Marked by a heavy stone slab monument detailing his administrative contributions to the Bellary and Anantapur regions.
Lieutenant William Grant Gordon (20th Regiment):
Historical Significance: Fell victim to the widespread outbreak of Cholera Morbus on July 16, 1824.
Epitaph: Features a poignant, poetic epitaph carved into stone that begins with the lines: "Cold my heart and dull my mind..."
Other Colonial & Military Officers:Includes graves belonging to Captain Archibald Macleod and Peter Bruce, along with various officers of the Madras Native Infantry who died while garrisoned at Gooty Fort.
Today, the cemetery is a silent reminder of the fierce battles that were fought in this part during the 18th and 19th centuries. Among those who were buried here obviously, Sir Thomas Munro stands tall. Not only did he win the hearts of Indians,particularly, Indian peasants, but also had left behind a legacy that endures to this day. Being a gentleman as he was, he entered into the Raghavendra Mutt, Mantralaya barefoot as part of his official work. Before the Samadhi of the saint he had a unique divine experience no body had ever experienced before. Fully satisfied with clear mind about Mutt land records, he came out in spiritual ecstasy.
