This early 12th century soapstone temple happens to be one of the earliest known temples built in the Hoysala era. It is the only chatukuta (four shrines) temple built by the Hoysala dynasty.

the criminals might have harmed the idol of Mahakali while searching for treasure, because none of the other idols of Lord Shiva and Vishnu were harmed. The criminals gained entry into the temple by breaking the main door and might have arrived from village outskirts as per the speculations.
