One of the oldest mosques established by a Muslim woman ruler, it is close to  the southwest corner of Red Fort and opposite to Netaji Subhash Park in Delhi.  Also referred to as the  Golden mosque, it was in 1751 it was built  by Nawab Qudsiya Begum, the wife of Emperor Ahmad Shah. Records say that between 1747 and 1751 it was built on  the order of Qudsia Begum for Nawab Bahadur Javed Khan, a nobleman during the reign of the Emperor Ahmad Shah. He was in charge of the  harem and respected the begum very much;  therefore  he was very influential. He was later assassinated for unknown reasons.

Nawab Ahmad Bakhsh Khan, father of the Nawab of Firozpur, carried out some repairs on the mosque to  strengthen it and to benefit the people there.  Soon after  its renovation, the Nawab and his son  escaped near death from an elephant that ran amok. In the melee his horse was killed and his vehicle severely damaged. The Nawab and his son  took refuge in the mosque  during the elephant attack.
The Sunehri Masjid, it is reported  is made of bassee jung, a light salmon-coloured stone, never used for building mosques, etc (?)  This peculiar color gives the mosque a unique look  that we seldom come across.

Qudsia Begum, being a pious woman, also  commissioned the 'Qudsia Bagh' and a mosque outside Kashmere Gate. Delhi
It is quite surprising, it is one of the mosques that survived the  1857 revolt against the British and the fierce battle during the Delhi siege.
Made of of three huge domes, which are originally coated with copper, the mosque has a simple look with two minarets and a prayer hall where people gather for namaz.  The dome of the minaret also had copper plates. Bahadur Shah II repaired and replaced them with sandstone facing in 1852.  Raj Ghat, Jama Masjid and Red Fort are close to this place.
