There are many temples dedicated to lord Hanuman or commonly Anjanaya (as he is known in the south), a close associate of Sri Rama and his family. Among them, Jakhu temple is a unique one. It is about 7 km from Simla, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh.

Often referred to as Jakhu Temple, it is an ancient Hindu temple located at an altitude of 2455 m - also the highest peak in Simla.
The legend has it that Lord Rama's brother Lakshmana was fighting the battle with the demon king of Lanka Ravana who abducted Rama's wife Sita and held her captive at Ashokavana. The battle ensued to retrieve Sri Sita and punish Ravana. During the intense fighting, a powrful Bhanam (arrow) hit Lakshmana and made him unconscious. With no alternative available to save Lakmana's life, Sri Hanuman moved over to the Himalayas to get life-saving Sanjeevani herb. As he was preoccupied with confusion over the identification of Sanjivini herb, he uprooted the entire mountain and flew back to Lanka to take care of Lakshmana. Upon curing Lakshmana, Hanuman went back to place the mountain in its original site. He rested on top of the Jakhu hill for some time. It is said that the top of the hill got flattened due to Hanuman's weight! The temple was built around the place that is supposed to have the footprints of Hanuman. It is a highly revered religious place of worship and is being visited by lots of devotees to seek Hanuman's blessings. The temple has a pair of feet engraved in white marble which are purported to be those of Hanuman's and devotees worship them.
A great event took place in 2010 on Jakhu Hill, it was the installation of the tallest statue of Hanuman in the world. This 108 foot tall statue lies at an altitude of 8100 ft above msl. In the temple, there are paintings of Lord Hanuman as well as Lord Rama, depicting various episodes from the Ramayana.

The temple is accessed by a 2.5 km footpath with long sections of stone steps. Ponies are available to take the elderly people to the top. This place has lots of monkeys and normally, they don't attack the people.
